sunday in the park

  • Just outside the North wall of the Forbidden City is the site of the Royal Gardens, where, 1000 years ago, the Emperor built a pagoda on top of the only hill in all of Beijing. Inside the pagoda is a 3 meter tall statue of the Buddha carved from a single block of white jade, with a crown of rubies and sapphires, its perfection is stunning. From the pagoda one can get a 360 degree view of Beijing, impressive. The royal gardens have been turned into a park where local people of all ages come for the day. There is music and singing everywhere. From miked Karaoke of traditional Chinese folk music to 100 member chorus' singing hymns. But our favorite:::::: seven miked harmonicas, hand-drum and two middle-aged women dancers preforming with great enthusiasm a rockin' rendition of Jingle Bells.........
