SEVERELY endangered

This is a clever little run-about for the hutong 'hood. A little tippy in heavy traffic, but they're all over town anyway. We've not braved one. And we probably won't. (It's a motor scooter under there.)
Not hard to see the difference in scale. Human  scale in the foreground; corporate scale in the background.
As this neighborhood is pulled down, where will the residents go? To live in an apartment block 17 stories above the ground in what Layla's dad used to call the equivalent of a drawer in a bureau?
Human scale means that trees can actually do the work of providing shade and oxygenation.
Note the solar water heaters on the roof in the photo above. When will that China import hit our shores?  
It must be demoralizing to have your neighborhood be pulled down around you. But, in this case, perhaps the human scale will be retained.
